Mags: Glamour gets shelved

The powers that be at Pacific Magazines (publisher of Marie Claire) and ACP Magazines (Cosmopolitan, Cleo, Madison), can rest assured their share of the mainstream women's magazine advertising pie will not be eaten into by Glamour in 2009. Word is that News Magazines has shelved the Australian launch of the international title indefinitely, though no official statement has been released. A lack of advertiser support and a poor economic climate have obviously been blamed. Talk about unfortunate timing. My thoughts go out to the team...

B&T reports: "The magazine was expected to launch in April next year, backed by a $10m marketing campaign. A number of Glamour staff came from competing publishers Pacific Magazines and ACP including editor Kerry Parnell from Marie Claire, Tennille Burt from Who magazine, Stevie Dance from Russh magazine, Kerry McCarthy from Womans Day and Kate Vickers from Madison."

Yours truly,
Girl With a Satchel

I never read this often, but it makes me sad nonetheless. Just like I was when Jane was canceled. I've always had a crazy love for the 'glossies'. When I discovered InStyle I thought it was a teenage girls bible, or at least mine. And I mean - not the actual bible, but I just - it was this huge thing and I remember the very first issue I ever bought (in a Blockbuster). It was one with Claire Danes and I probably still have it out of posterity. I guess my point is that it's sad to see another magazine go away. I really love magazines - there's just something so magical about them. ...Okay. I sound corny now. Haha.

Wow that is pretty major news, I wonder whether in the future we will only be buying international magazines because they are the only ones with financial support ?!

Noooo! Oh my golly, that news makes me feel a little queezy... will there be any mag jobs left when I head home in March?

I feel terrible for the team, especially since their 'redundancy packages' weren't really packages at all. Fingers crossed they can all find something before Christmas!

Wow...all of this before Christmas...so sad.

I do hope they all find a job soon.

I heard that most of them will be given jobs around the company so there should be minimal redundancies.
